Vela X
Encyclopedia
Vela X is a strong radio pulsar source, that is also associated with a very strong 100 MeV gamma-ray source, and the rather weak Uhuru
Uhuru (satellite)
Uhuru was the first satellite launched specifically for the purpose of X-ray astronomy. It was also known as the X-ray Explorer Satellite, SAS-A , SAS 1, or Explorer 42.The observatory was launched on 12 December 1970 into an initial orbit of about 560 km apogee, 520 km...

 X-ray source 4U 0833-45.
It is isolated, and should not be confused with the very different strong accreting, pulsing, eclipsing binary X-ray source Vela X-1
Vela X-1
Vela X-1 is a pulsing, eclipsing high-mass X-ray binary system, associated with the Uhuru source 4U 0900-40 and the supergiant star HD 77581....

, also known as 4U 0900-40, and which is associated with the supergiant star HD 77581.

Both objects are of high intrinsic interest, and extensively studied.

G.Michanovsky (1980) wrote about the probable significance of Vela X in prehistory.
