Similarly Maruthuvars a related clan of Valluvars were the Surgeons and Physicians of ancient Tamil country.
The Valluvans had huge stock of gold. All the Valluvanad areas there has been legends of golden ammi, grinding stones found by people who are tilling the land in the recent times. Similarly legends of golden statuets,ornaments and other large artifacts are rumoured to have been found in Valluvanad areas in Wayanad, Palakkadu and Kanyakumari

Oral traditions say that Thiruvalluvar,who wrote the famous Thirukkural was the king of the Valluvanadu which was situated in the hilly regions of Kanyakumari district.A giant statue of Thiruvalluvar has been established at Kanyakumari as a tribute to Thiruvalluvar.
