History

Upton Primary School first opened its doors to children in the mid 1930s. The original school was also located at the current site on Iris Avenue.

The new Library, opened in 2003, was named in memory of Mrs Carole Lewington, who died in 2000. In the late 1990s a portable classroom was installed that became the home of the two year six classes and a reception class.

Old school building

The old school had two long corridors with many classrooms and the Carol Lewington Library at the end of the hall. The office was at the Upton Road entrance, as was the large hall and the early-years classes, which were situated next to the offices. The school grounds had a field and playground. The school canteen for the school dinner pupils was in the far corner of the field.

New school building

The new school building was completed in early 2010. It took almost two years to complete. The school contains many classrooms, each with a small library. There is a large hall and a large shared classroom. The canteen is now in the main school hall, along with offices and a staff room.
