organization, is a private, not-for-profit medical facility located in Gaffney, South Carolina. It is a 125-bed, 145000 square feet (13,470.9 m²) hospital that employs over 400 healthcare professionals. Upstate Carolina Medical Center has been providing health care to the city of Gaffney and Cherokee County since 1988.

Services

Upstate Carolina Medical Center offers a variety of services, including a newly opened emergency department in 2002 and a new Outpatient Service Department in 2007. The following services are currently offered at Upstate Carolina Medical Center:
  • Acute Medicine, including medical, surgical, women’s care, pediatrics, intensive care, and orthopedics.
  • Diabetes Management Services hosts an ADA recognized diabetes education program, offering individual appointments with an RN and RD, Carbohydrate Counting/Meal Planning classes and support group meetings.
  • The Emergency Department at Upstate Carolina Medical Center is the county’s only emergency department that also includes a Nurse First Program, where a nurse will initially access a patient's condition and prioritize their needs.
  • The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is responsible for the pre-hospital care and transportation of persons who become acutely ill or injured and are in need of ambulance transport to a hospital using Advanced Life Support ambulances.
  • The Intensive Care Unit is a 12-bed unit that provides close monitoring for acutely ill patients.
  • Outpatient Services include a department that handles outpatient tests and surgeries.
  • Pediatric services treat young children according to their specific needs.
  • Post Intensive Care Unit includes 34 monitored beds for patients who have acute or chronic illness or multiple complicating disease processes.
  • One-Call Scheduling allows a patient's doctor's office to call Upstate Carolina, who will then make an appointment for that patient without having to get the patient involved with scheduling.
  • Women's Services include gynecological care and obstetrics, prepared childbirth classes and a well-baby nursery for newborns.
  • The Wound Center provides care to wounds including those that developed from certain treatments such as: diabetic foot & pressure ulcers, complications from surgical procedures, radiation burns from cancer treatments, and wounds caused by poor circulation.
  • The Imaging Department provides imaging services such as X-ray scanning and MRI's.
  • Patient Advocacy Program provides a Patient Advocate for all patients to promote open communication between the hospital's staff, physicians, and the patient.
  • The Cardiopulmonary Department provides diagnostic testing, treatments and care to patients suffering from lung and heart disorders.

Each year, PRC presents its top award to one organization or individual that has made an extraordinary contribution to healthcare.

National Quality Respiratory Care Recognition

Upstate Carolina Medical Center earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals in April 2011.
