The school was opened in August 1885. It was located by Uddingston railway station.

In 2009 Uddingston Grammar moved to a new school building which was built on the old school playing fields,
after a number of objections to the suitability of the site.

It has been planned that the old Uddingston Grammar building will be turned into flats and work commenced during July 2010 by the developer Barratt Homes.

In 2009 the new Head Teacher of Uddingston Grammar re-introduced school blazers as part of the school uniform for first, fifth and sixth year.

However, in year 2010/2011 all pupils S1-S6 are required to wear blazers.
