Loomis played at California Irvine University, where he led the 1999-2000 team in kills. He had a career best finish in the 2006 season opener in Ft. Lauderdale, then equaled that mark later in the year in Brooklyn. In 2006 he ranked second on the AVP Tour in aces, notching .82 aces per game. Prior to the 2006 season Loomis played in two tournaments on the Australian Pro Tour with Stolfus, and the pair finished third in one event before winning the Australian Championships.
