 streams (tweets). It is part of a family of markup languages known as 'Realtime Markup Languages (RTML). RTML also includes Short Message Markup Language (SMML).

TML gives structure to Twitter streams. With TML, users can tag part of the stream which are then parsed by a Twitter reader or human. TML enables new forms of human-human, human-machine and machine-machine communication using Twitter.

TML can be used for many applications and verticals.

Examples

For road traffic and transportation: Instead of just tweeting about an accident, add tags to indicate time and place of accident. City officials and highway police can also use TML to tag road closures or other problems. GPS nav units and Android and Apple apps can then pick up these streams and parse them.

TML for Transportation

Use this syntax for a wide range of transportation status alerts. Bridges, roads, traffic, roadworks, etc. These streams can then be read by both humans or parsers to incorporate in realtime navigation and mapping functions. Here are some TML tags for the highway/transport sector:
