 used to be, when trolls all hid under bridges to be killed by heroes, and the land was not so well settled. In other words, as encroaching civilization tames the landscape the environment required for "typical" fantasy adventures disappears, until characters such as Cohen become mythical.

A film of Troll Bridge is in production by Snowgum Films.

Cohen is the only character who is definitely seen in other Discworld novels. However the Ankh-Morpork City Watch

 does have a troll constable by the name of Mica and a troll called Bryn Chalifoux (Mica's brother-in-law), who owns a sawmill, is mentioned in Witches Abroad, although it is unclear whether these are the same individuals.
