The Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones de Costa Rica is the supreme electoral authority of the Republic of Costa Rica
. It was founded in 1949, when it enacted the present Constitution of the nation. The Supreme Electoral Court is the Constitutional authority of all electoral matters of Costa Rica
and therefore responsible for the organization, direction and supervision of acts relating to suffrage. The tribunal has an element of independence in performing its duties.
