He has served as consultant and appeared on screen as an expert commentator for History Channel documentaries, and is regularly invited to speak at colleges, seminars, and civic organizations. Hatch lives with his wife, Lynn, and daughter, Cimarron, in Colorado.

Hatch has recently completed a book for St. Martin's Press titled: "Osceola and the Great Seminole War: A Struggle for Justice and Freedom." He has also signed a contract with New American Library for a work in progress titled: "The Last Outlaws."
