Plot summary

This novel is the tale of two missing boys. One, a boy from Detective Banks past whose body finally turns up many years later during construction on a building site. Alluded to in previous novels, now we learn the details. The second in the present day, gone missing, possibly kidnapped from Bank's home turf of Eastvale. Banks, officially on leave, goes home to Peterborough to assist with the inquiry into his childhood friend leaving the rest of his Eastvale team to deal with the ongoing disappearance.
