It was launched in 1996 by Dar Al Sharq, leading media house which publishes among other the Arabic daily Al Sharq, when it realized that with the fast pace of development and the resultant influx of a more educated, professional class of expatriate into the county time was ripe for a second English daily.

The Peninsula has since carved for itself a distinct and distinguishing niche among the more discerning readers with the depth and breadth of its coverage and meticulously raised the bar of journalism in the county.

The Peninsula today, besides being major player in the market, occupies a position of prestige in Qatar’s media world in terms of credibility and influence. Readers value it as a newspaper with mind of its own, decision-makers look at it as a barometer of public opinion and thought leaders seek its views on matters of critical importance to society.
