According to its website, the mission of the OTPA is to address the selective material released by the right wing pressure group known as The TaxPayers' Alliance. An organisation that claims to represent a "grassroots alliance" of "ordinary taxpayers" but which is actually a free-to-join mailing list.

The Other TaxPayers' Alliance receives no funding, is quite happy to be described as left-wing and also makes no claim to represent all taxpayers. It does point out that 99.6% of British taxpayers are not represented by its namesake either. The Other TaxPayers' Alliance is run on a volunteer basis by website developer Clifford Singer, with help from an informal network of bloggers.
