The Mountain Astrologer (TMA) is a bi-monthly English-language astrology magazine, written for professional astrologers and astrology students of all levels. It was the winner of the 1999 and 2000 Spica Awards for Best Astrology Publication and is widely acknowledged as the world's premiere astrology magazine. A review in Library Journal described it as "a thoughtful periodical, many heads above those found at supermarket checkout lines". , its distribution is reported to be 17,500 copies, with 8,600 sent to subscribers, and the remainder distributed to stores distributed through stores and newsstands including Barnes & Noble

Background and development

The magazine started out as an 8-page newsletter in late 1987. It now presents an index of more than 2,000 features, including astrological articles, interviews with astrologers, and reviews of astrological texts. The Book Review index lists 468 books reviewed in TMA from 1992 through the April/May 2010 issue.

Contents

The magazine presents articles designed for professional astrologers and new astrology students. Its range extends to forecasts, listings of daily aspects and other astrological data, book reviews and humour, and articles that cover Jyotish astrology, Uranian astrology, planets in houses and signs, aspects, medical astrology, medieval astrology, asteroids, sidereal astrology and the astrology of world events. It also provides reviews for astrological software products.
