The Circle Series

The Circle series is part of Ted Dekker's massive Books of History Chronicles, which tells the story of the Books of History through various sub-series. The Circle series began as a trilogy with Black, Red, and White, and told the story of a man named Thomas Hunter who stumbled upon another world that he could access only through his dreams. As the story unfolds in Black, Thomas realizes that the survival of both worlds lies solely in him, as both worlds are connected in ways he cannot understand, and he is the bridge between them. The original story arch ends in White.

Green is, in many ways, a cap on the entire Books of History Chronicles released as of 2009. It pulled together the characters from the Paradise series and the Lost Books series to tell a climactic summary of all three sub-series. It also laid the groundwork for two new books, Immanuel's Veins

. Green is unique among fiction books in that it functions as both the beginning and the ending of the series, with two endings that either restart the series or provide closure.

Reason for The Circle Collector's Edition

The inspiration for the release came because of a controversy among fans over the original ending to Green. Originally meant to be Book Zero of the Circle series, Greens ending introduced a literal circle in the timeline of events so that the last book in the story also served as the prologue to the first book. The more dedicated fans and theorists engaged in long arguments over the relevancy of the "Book Zero" status and even engaged the author over various complaints with the infinite story loop.

In 2010, Dekker addressed the criticism drawn by the ending of Green and the debate over its placement in chronology by releasing The Circle with an alternate ending to Green. This alternate ending completes the story rather than restarting it, giving closure to the Circle series. This change is explained in a note from Dekker to the readers, as well as in an exclusive interview which follows the included original ending to Green. The new ending changes the title of Green from "The Beginning and the End" to "The Last Stand."
