Plot

After her son's birth, Isabel feels that her life has hit a happy (or happier) patch.

To her distress, she learns that the editorial committee for the Applied Ethics journal she edits has decided to replace her.

Meanwhile, she becomes interested in the life and recent death of Andrew McInnes, an artist whose paintings feature mostly the island of Jura
