In 2002 Thailand achieved a 4th place finish in the Beach Soccer World Cup in Brazil after losing their third place play off final against Uruguay. They were drawn into group A alongside Brazil and managed to beat France and Spain to reach the Semi final against Portugal which they lost 3-2. Thailand's goalkeeper Vilard Normcharoen
