Early life

Terry Dobson was born in 1952 or 1953 on a large council estate in Wakefield, where he attended Flanshaw Infants (now called Flanshaw Junior and Infants), Alverthorpe

From 15 years of age Terry worked as a joiner for Horners Building Contractors in Ossett and also Wakefield Metropolitan District Council before turning professional with Black Lace in 1976.

Terry formed "The Impact" pop group in 1969 with school pal Ian Howarth. This was after playing drums on the chair arms of another friend Freddy Pearson's mum's best 3 piece suit...a drum kit of sorts put together after Mr Billy Blackburn donated a bass drum and toms to the cause...It was a full 4 years and two further band name changes (Penny Arcade) and (Love or Confusion) before Black Lace was born.

Black Lace

 . Terry Dobson left the group in 1973, a short time after Ian Howarth, but both members later rejoined after a couple of line up changes involving Neil Hardcastle (drums 3 months) and Nigel Scott (Bass 4 years)

Finally arriving at the line up in 1976 consisting of:- Steve Scholey (lead singer) Alan Barton (lead guitar, lead singer and backing vocals) Terry Dobson ( Drums and Backing Vocals) and Colin Routh (Gibb) (Bass Guitar backing vocals and a multitude of other stringed instruments)

Following the band split in January 1981 Terry joined the Castleford based band "Stormer", formally known as "Method". The band had toured the length and breadth of the UK before being signed up by Ringo Starr. This was after a recording deal with Jonathan King had ended... Terry's time with the band came to an end on December 31, 1984 when John and Steve decided to call it a day.

Terry's professional drumming career now in tatters,when he went on to take up where he had left off...His full time occupation once again working for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council as a maintenance joiner, although it had been almost 8 years to the day when he had left.

After some 8 months without a drumming job, Terry was asked to step in with some friends in a band called "Aircrew" when their drummer was taken ill...good news for Terry, he was snapped up and given the full time job when the existing drummers illness got worse,although the band only played in a semi-professional capacity...

Terry left "Aircrew" in 1993 after a love affair forced the breakup of his second marriage. The band split up in 1995.

Mister Twister

Terry Dobson is still playing the drums in the Wakefield band Mister Twister comprising Jim Trueman (guitar and lead vocals), Dave Pickles (guitar and lead vocals), John Deyes (keyboards and backing vocalist) and Terry Dobson (drums, various percussion and backing vocals) Two The band members are former musician friends from the band "Aircrew"

And Then Came Agadoo and Tricia's Death

Terry Dobson spent nine years writing of the ups and downs of life with Black Lace. He has pledged to donate a portion of the profits from sales of the book to Wakefield Hospice, a care home for terminally ill patients.

The book's writing was suddenly halted, with the death of his partner, Tricia, to an asthma attack in 2006, leaving him to look after his youngest son Liam, his other children from previous marriages have been very supportive during this time, Helen,eldest daughter from his first marriage to Jacky. Kerry, Warren, and Ashley from his marriage to Amanda.

The book was completed in 2009 and went on sale in November of the same year. Terry Dobson said in the Wakefield Express

Current Occupation

Terry Dobson is currently a Programming Manager for the Wakefield and District Housing.
