Its deprecated junior homonym is Therapon. It was introduced since "Terapon" was perceived as an incorrect rendering of the Greek word therapon. In fact, the intended etymology was = strange thing, monster, wonder (cf. teratosaurus
) + Greek: pontios = marine, pertaining to the sea.
