Since joining CNN in March 2004, Rowlands has covered numerous major stories. He was part of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning CNN team that covered Hurricane Katrina and it’s aftermath from New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Rowlands also covered the massacre at Virginia Tech, and the deaths of Presidents, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford. In addition, he has broken numerous stories exclusively on CNN.
In 2008, Rowlands was an integral part of CNN’s award winning coverage of the historic presidential election reporting from several battleground states, including Texas, Colorado and Nevada. He was also a fill-in anchor for CNN’s political show, Ballot Bowl.
In 2009 Rowlands secured an exclusive jail house interview with Scott Roeder in Wichita Kansas, days after Roeder was arrested for the murder of abortion Doctor George Tiller.
Rowlands’ work has taken him across the world covering the devastating 1999 earthquake in India, humanitarian relief efforts in the Philippines, the deadly tsunami in Samoa and the initial outbreak of the H1N1 flu in Mexico City. In June of 2010, Rowlands traveled to Tarawa, Kirabati to cover the military recovery efforts of the remains of US World War Two servicemen.
Rowlands was also an occasional fill in host for Larry King Live and a reoccurring guest.
Before joining CNN, Rowlands was a reporter for KTVU
in Oakland. During his tenure at the Fox affiliate, Rowlands was the station's lead reporter covering the Laci Peterson case and one of the few journalists to get an interview with Scott Peterson. Prior to joining KTVU-TV, Rowlands was a reporter with KNTV in San Jose, where in 1999 he exclusively broadcast the confession of Cary Stayner, who had been accused of murdering two female tourists and a park employee in Yosemite National Park. Rowlands also covered the San Francisco dog mauling case and trial in 2000 for the station.
Rowlands has served as a bureau chief and reporter for KSBW-TV in Salinas, California and began his broadcast as an anchor and reporter for KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minn.
Rowlands has a bachelor's degree in communication arts from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Ted Rowlands is a general assignment correspondent for CNN based in Chicago. Rowlands is best known for his outstanding coverage of high profile criminal cases including Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson and Phil Spector.
