 Technological Studies, which consists of three main units:
  • Systems and Control
  • Applied Electronics
  • Structures and Materials


each of these units contains either 3 or 4 outcomes which detail specific parts of the unit, and can be quite different from each other.

Higher Assessment

A (currently 3-hour exam) is sat for Higher Technological Studies as well as an internal National Assessment Bank

 issued by the SQA, for each unit. Candidates must pass each NAB in order to sit the exam. (Previously, there was a NAB per outcome, but the new system results in only 3 NABs).

Higher Technological Studies is notoriously one of the hardest Higher exams to pass with only a 60% pass rate. This results in uptake for the subject being rather low.
