Tatra 17 is a vintage luxury automobile produced by the Czech manufacturer Tatra from 1925-1929.

Engine

The vehicle had a liquid-cooled six-cylinder OHC in-line Tatra 17 engine with 1930 cc and 35 hp (26 kW) power. This new block engine by Bevel

 had an aluminum cylinder head and the first Tatras to have a ignition battery. The maximum attainable speed of the 1130 kg (2,491 lb) heavy car was 100 km/h (62 mph). Until 25 September 1926 205 vehicles were made.

The other engine used was a liquid-cooled six-cylinder OHC in-line Tatra 31 engine with 2310 cc and 39,4 hp (29,4 kW) power. The maximum attainable speed was 110 km/h (68.4 mph). 250 vehicles were made.

Vehicles with a 2309 cc engine and 40 hp (29 kW) of power developed in to the successor to the Tatra 17 was from 1926 the Tatra 31. 300 vehicles with this engine were made.

. Unlike the predecessor the Tatra 17 had independent suspension not only of the rear half axles, but also independent suspension of the front axles. The shaft is inside the tube. The gear-box and engine is mounted in the front of the tube, while the differential is in the back.

Versions

Tatra 17 was a luxurious car for demanding clients. There were many different versions made, also a few fire engines, one of which is still in application as honorary fire engine of Svatý Jan nad Malší
