Plot

In the wake of the Bartlet Administration's landslide reelection, various foreign and domestic issues pop up for the senior staff to deal with. On the former front, the Swiss ambassador tells Leo that the son of the Iranian Ayatollah needs a heart-lung transplant that can only be done in the U.S.--and it turns out, can only be performed by an Iranian-American surgeon whose father was murdered by the Ayatollah's forces and whose family still lives in Iran. On the latter front, a very liberal Senator named Tripplehorn (Geoff Pierson

) threatens to withhold support from Josh's legislative plans after learning that heavyweight party precinct captains have been promised to John Hoynes

in 2006. Josh thinks Hoynes is manipulating the situation, but reads it wrong and manages to badly insult the VP. Meanwhile Toby tries without success to find a Presidential-appointment position for a Democratic Congresswoman from Michigan who lost her re-election bid because she called for an enormous gasoline tax.
