Knox, as a linesman, later filled in as referee during a game in Toronto in the early 1990s, when Don Koharski
couldn't finish the game and Kevin Maguire
made his NHL officiating debut as a linesman. The changes were made before the third period. Knox wore Koharski's jersey, while Maguire wore Knox's jersey.
