Suzie Miller

Suzie Miller is an Australian/British playwright based in Sydney and London.

Suzie Miller is a graduate of the Playwrights Studio at the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Arts (2000), has a Masters degree in Theatre & Film, and a Masters degree in Law. Amongst other awards and nominations Suzie has won the 2008 National Kit Denton Fellowship

 for writing with courage; shortlisted for the 2010 Australian Writers Guild Award for drama; shortlisted for the Griffin Award 2009; Winner of Inscription 2009; and 2006: mentored by Edward Albee 2009; Winner 2008 New York Fringe Festival ‘Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Playwriting’: 2005 Theatrelab award, and has been shortlisted for Premiers’ awards, AWGIES (Writers Guild awards), and numerous others.

Suzie is presently residing in London. The National Theatre in London developed her work Transparency while on attachment there in March/April 2009. She was also on attachment in 2009 with Ransom Theatre, Northern Ireland. Transparency, written under the Kit Denton Fellowship, premiered with Ransom (new writing) Theatre in Belfast in 2009, and toured Northern Ireland UK then nominated by the Irish Times and other Irish newspapers as ‘best of’ 2009.

In 2008 her play Reasonable Doubt was produced at both the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the 2008 NY Fringe Festival (winning the NY Festival’s Excellence Playwriting Award). Confused Sea Conditions was produced as one of 8 plays selected internationally in Philadelphia US April 2009; and Flight/Fright Mode at 2009 Edinburgh Festival as one of 8 Australian plays.

She has been produced at various venues including the Sydney Opera House. Her works include: Cross Sections, 2004 Old Fitzroy Theatre, 2005 Sydney Opera House Studio, short listed for the Qld Premier's Literary Award 2004 and a 2005 AWGIE (Industry awards). SOLD was developed with Cicely Berry (Royal Shakespeare Company) and produced 2007 Old Fitzroy Theatre. It was shortlisted for the 2006 Rodney Seaborne award. All the Blood and All the Water was dramatruged under mentor Edward Albee, then produced by Riverside Theatre 2008 touring to Casula Powerhouse Theatre. In 2011, SOLD was produced at theatre503 in London.

Suzie has sat on the board of Playworks, Playwriting Australia, TRS, State of Play, and others. She has been a judge for the Australian Writers Guild for film scripts, plays and the Kit Denton, and has sat on the Australia Council of the Arts Literature Board as a theatre peer. She is also on the reader panel for various theatre companies in Australia and London.
