, Australia. It was established in 1995 by Melbourne filmmaker, animator, artist and composer John Francis.
From beginnings creating award-winning animated shorts and music clips, the studio has invested extensively in a development slate of live action adventure and animated film and TV projects and is also exploring the cinematic possibilities of stereoscopic 3D. Many examples of the studio's work are featured on the Surreal World website.

Although mainly a computer graphics company, the studio's aesthetics are grounded by the traditional disciplines of illustration, sculpture and performing arts. Surreal World has created visual effects and animations for hundreds of TV commercials, music clips, print media and to date, three theatrically released Australian feature films, Let's Get Skase (2001), Take Away (2003), and You and Your Stupid Mate (2005).
