Supplyco was started as part of Indian Food Security scheme of 1970s in state of Kerala. Over years, the organization grew into the largest retail network under public sector in India, with more than 1400 outlets, serving more than 30 million customers in Kerala alone. However sooner the organization grew into an inefficient organization, with history of loss making. Yet by 2007 onwards, the organization made a strong come-back by posting Rs 18.25 crores and this has continued in the year 2008 by attaining 23.36 crores as operational profit, making it the only profit making retail organization in Public sector in India.

Supplyco has more than 889 stores spread across Kerala branded as Maveli Stores selling unbranded rice, sugar, pulses and spices at subsidized rates. These stores are primarily meant to cater poorer sections of society and protect general public from food inflation, by selling essential items at nominal or subsidized rates. The quantity of each essential item is regulated as per government policy and can be brought with ration cards issued by District supply officer. A few Maveli stores located in towns and cities do sell other consumer and branded products in limited way without any subsidy to cater middle class. Normally most of items sold are not packed, but in loose, though few items are pre-packed.
  • Labam People Bazar


Supplyco have 13 Labam People Bazar stores mainly in major towns and cities of Kerala, where all few branded products are also sold with subsidy to cater brand conscious urban population. Labam means Profit in Malayalam and is meant to transfer profit to public. Special people bazar are opened during festival times, to distribute all essential commodities, vegetables and branded daily goods to public and curb price rise in volatile market conditions and ensure no shortages.
  • Supplyco Super Markets


These are part of regular retail operations of Supplyco, having 347 stores across Kerala, selling both subsidized and non-subsidized items, both branded and non branded products. Normally most of the items in Supplyco stores sell at discounted prices and sells everything in pre-packed conditions, according to HACCP Standards. A few items are sold in loose format though in general most of them are pre-packed. The stores also sells diary, grocery as well as stationery.
  • Maveli and Sabari Medical Stores


As part of curbing price rise in medical retailing, Supplyco has started 92 Medical stores. A few medical stores are attached with existing Maveli stores and branded as Maveli Medicals whereas independent stores are branded as Sabari Stores. Supplyco sells most of life saving drugs at subsidized rates and even nominal rates to weaker sections of society.
  • Supplyco Petrol Bunk


Supplyco has 16 petrol stations in major cities/towns selling petroleum products and automobile lubricants as well as LPG Cylinders. As a rule, all government vehicles have to purchase fuels from nearest Supplyco Petrol station/bunks.
  • Mobile Maveli Store


Supplyco has 16 Mobile Maveli stores bring supermarkets on vehicles/caravans for benefit of people living in remote areas, particularly hilly areas, islands, coastal areas and forests.
  • Supplyco Premium Store and Hypermarkets


The Supplyco has Premium store selling premium products, branded goods and commodities, cosmetics, Perfumes, gourmet foods, diary, vegetable, bakery and meat items. Supplyco has 3 hypermarkets, selling almost all items including furniture, dress materials, fabrics, lifestyle products and other items. Inaddition, an airport retail store has been opened in Cochin International Airport

Supplyco has its own in-house brand known as Sabari range of products, ranging from various FMCG products and other essential goods.

Sabari Tea

The Supplyco launched its own brand, Sabari Tea, in 1984. Today it's the second largest selling branded tea in Kerala. Supplyco is the second largest purchaser of tea at the Cochin auctions. Sabari Tea has 6 graded tea brands.

Paddy Procurement

As the nodel agency to implement the decentralized procurement of paddy from Kerala State, the corporation undertakes the procurement and milling of paddy for distributing custom milled rice through the Fair Value shops in the state. It benefits nearly 70000 farmers in the state and the payment to farmers is completely web based, where every grain of paddy procured from farmers and payments to farmers are duly accounted for. Kerala is paying the highest support price to paddy farmers among other Indian states.

Mid Day Meals Scheme

Under the Mid-Day meal programme of the Government, Supplyco distributes food items to 2.34 million school children.
