. Its Singapore Seen http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/index.jsp section is locally a well known platform for expressions that are frequently frivolous, prejudiced, malignant and at time slanderous.

STOMPers are made out of people who are too cowardly to tell off 'Ugly Commuters' http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/ugly_commuters/ for their offensive behaviour and act as vigilantes, posting videos of said commuters doing offensive things, such as not giving up seats to pregnant women or the elderly. STOMPers display classic Singaporean passive aggressiveness and take great pleasure in naming and shaming people by posting photographs of the 'offenders' while hiding behind their STOMP usernames. This behaviour is endorsed and sponsored by the state owned national newspaper, The Straits Times.

Criticism

STOMP has been criticised by The Online Citizen as 'gutter journalism' and for irresponsible reporting http://theonlinecitizen.com/2007/11/gutter-journalism-masquerading-as-citizen-journalism-racist-rhetoric-stoked-over-irresponsible-reporting-2/. The website is largely unregulated, allowing all users to upload any content they wish onto the website. STOMP publishes mostly petty gossip. This is evidenced in the 'Singapore Seen' section, where users often upload videos of frowned upon MRT behaviour such as overly-amorous couples and people eating. Like The Temasek Review, it attracts idiotic Singaporeans from all over the island and is a breeding ground for stupidity and discrimination. What is even more disgusting is that this website owned by the state newspaper, The Straits Times.

Awards

  • Hitwise Top 10 Websites for 2008, STOMP made the top ten list of Singaporean websites for 2008 as compiled by market research website Hitwise.
  • IFRA 2008 Best Online Media Gold Award, STOMP bagged the Best Online Media Gold Award at the 7th Asia Media Awards in 2008, organized by IFRA, the worldwide research and service organization for the news publishing industry.
