BG Twitty is a native of Chesnee, South Carolina. He is a 1985 distinguished military graduate from South Carolina State University. BG Twitty also holds a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.

BG Twitty’s duty assignments include Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader and Battalion S-3 Air from August 1985 through May 1989 in the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, and 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. From October 1989 through May 1993, he served as the S3 Air for the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment during OPERATION DESERT STORM, Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, and Company Commander of B Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. From May 1993 through May 1994, BG Twitty served as a Joint Chiefs of Staff Intern in the Directorate for Strategic Plans and Policy (J-5) in the Pentagon; and, from 1994 through 1995 served as the Speechwriter to the Army G3. After completion of the Command and General Staff College, BG Twitty served from June 1996 through April 1997 in Heidelberg, Germany as a G3 Operations Officer with V Corps. From April 1997 through June 1999, he served in Schweinfurt, Germany as the Battalion Executive Officer (XO) for the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment and the Brigade Operations Officer (S3) for the 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. From June 1999 through June 2001, BG Twitty served in Mons, Belgium at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as the Aide-de-Camp to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Commander in Chief US European Command (CINC-USEUCOM). From June 2001 through June 2003, Colonel Twitty served in the 3rd Infantry Division as the Battalion Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment including during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, and from June 2003 through June 2004, he served as the Division G3 for the 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart Georgia. He served as the Commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division from August 2005 to March 2008, including OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and the Commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team 1st Armored Division from March 2008 to July 2008. From July 2008 to July 2009 BG Twitty served as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Commanding General of US Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He last served as Chief of Staff, Third Army/United States Army Central, Fort McPherson, GA.

BG Twitty is currently the Deputy Commanding General, Ft. Bliss, TX.
