at 50 New Gower Street is the province's largest convention centre with 18,200 square feet (1,900 m2) of space. The convention centre was completed in May 2001 along with Mile One Centre
, which is located across the road and linked by a pedway
system. The centre is also linked with the Delta Hotel, which supplies catering for events.
When the Convention Centre was constructed it was built directly on top of what was roughly the middle of George Street
. This resulted into the creation of two separate streets: the popular George Street, known for its record number of bars and pubs, and George Street West, which is home to a number of businesses, residences and a church.
