The Louth and Lincoln Railway, which connected with was authorised on 6 August 1866 and opened on 1 December 1876. It was absorbed by the Great Northern Railway
in 1882. One of the stations opened with the line was South Willingham; one month later, on 1 January 1877 it was renamed South Willingham and Hainton.
Passenger services ended on 5 November 1951, goods traffic on 1 December 1958.
