 with the main road of Storrs Hill Road. It is historically the least industrialised part of the town. Much of the new building that has caused Ossett to grow has been concentrated in the South Ossett area.

About 25% of Ossett's population is within the South Ossett area.

In recent years, there have been a large number of sightings in the area of a large, black cat-like creature, giving rise to the belief that Ossett, in particular the area by Heeley Mills may be resident to a panther or some such big cat.
