The Board of Regents controls all institutional decisions for the six public universities in South Dakota, operating with a total budget of approximately $306 million. The board is made up of nine members, eight of whom serve six-year terms, and all of whom are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the state senate. The ninth member is a student regent, who is a full voting member but serves only a two-year term. The board employs an Executive Director to coordinate legislation, oversee and work with university presidents, and ensure that the board's goals are carried out. The current executive director is Dr. Jack R. Warner.
