The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) is a professional association of accountants based in South Africa
. The institute had more than 6000 members as of 2011.
However, South African CPAs perform only accounting and tax work, usually for smaller entities, and may not perform auditing work. For that reason, to avoid confusion with American companies who are used to CPAs performing audits, the name was changed to the current one, and the qualification to "Certified Professional Accountant".
