The team has struggled over the past few years, even having an 0-10 season, dubbed "The Trail of Tears" by the student body in 2004. In 2010 the Cherokees once again had another devastating season, finishing 1-9. On October 8, 2010, South Doyle snapped their 17-game losing streak by beating Cocke County, 30-14.

Marching Band
The South-Doyle Marching band has been to several competitions and on many trips since its arrangement. It had been directed by Chris Satterfield for many years, but beginning with the 2010-2011 school year the band has been directed by Steve Taylor.

The marching band has a different theme each football season. In 2009, the theme was "Latin America". In 2010, the theme was "Music of the Night". The performance set list features songs as following: "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," "Phantom of the Opera," "Wishing You were Somehow Here Again," songs from "Nightmare Before Christmas," and, of course, "Music of the Night." All percussion and Drumline/Battery parts are written by Steve Rodgers, the assistant band director.
