. It aims to focus on the development and application of software and system modeling languages and techniques.

The scope of this journal is described as:
"... to publish high-quality works that further understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of modeling languages and techniques, present rigorous analyzes of modeling experiences, and present scalable modeling techniques and processes that facilitate rigorous and economical development of software."


The journal started 2002 is currently published four times a year (as 2011) and contains a steady increasing number of pages. It consists of three types of articles:
  • Expert voice articles that discuss a variety of topics and are written by distinguished expert of the field on invitation basis,
  • Regular papers,
  • Special issue papers that are collected as considerable extensions and enhancements of the best papers of a conference, such as MODELS, and
  • Theme issue papers that are solicited and collected by an open call.

While expert voices are by invitation, all other papers undergo a thorough review process.
