Society for the Protection of Life from Fire

The Society for the Protection of Life from Fire was the first non-privately-owned fire service in Britain. Establish in 1836 it has provided escape ladders, equipment such as ladders to assist in fighting fires. It gives out awards to the general public for notable acts of bravery or courage in fire rescue situations.
