The son of Susanna Cross and Francis Trajan Sacheverell Sitwell of Weston Hall, Northamptonshire, he is the nephew of Sir Reresby Sitwell, 7th Baronet

. He is married to Martha Sitwell (née de Blank), daughter of restaurateur Justin de Blank.

Sir Reresby and his younger brother Francis were reportedly "never in harmony". Sir Reresby bequeathed
the principal Sitwell family seat, Renishaw Hall, Derbyshire, to his daughter Alexandra, Mrs Rick Hayward. The house and estate are therefore presently separated from the Renishaw baronetcy for the first time in the family's history.
