Boomtown opened in 1994 as a mining-themed locals casino

 with 300 hotel rooms, operated by Boomtown Inc. (owner of Boomtown Reno) with Majestic as landlord. After suffering financially, the property was taken over by Roski in 1997 and renamed Silverton. Roski began down a path of cutting staff from 1,400 to 900 and re-theming the resort as a hunting lodge.

In 2009, a $160 million renovation was completed, including a new parking garage, new restaurants, and a casino expansion. An aggressive new marketing campaign was launched at the same time to compete with the newly opened M Resort
