He was originally in the band The Dash, later formed the band "Moonwash Symphony" before forming his current band Goldenboy.

The Dash was Shon Sullivan-guitar, Jim "Jet" electric bass, and Jon Crawford on drums. This band was formed in 1982, when all three were members of "The Music Store-Rock Workshop" program in Walnut, Ca. The boys were 12 at the time and performed frequently in Southern California, and opened for Flock of Seagulls at The Green Door.

Moonwash Symphony had several lineups. One of the later lines ups was Shon, Brian Bos, and Jeremy Lopez.
