. He has been with the band since its inception in 1997 and was previously a member of La:Sadie's. Shinya has composed a handful of songs for Dir en grey, his compositions alternating between melodic ("Hotarubi", "Fukai") and upbeat tunes ("Raison Detre", "Umbrella").

His front tom's are all arranged to be 8 inches in depth and has a 16" tom hanging on his hi-hat side. His racks are all gold, racked on top of each other to form his double-rack style. His main hi-hat is remotely controlled. He does not use any normal crash cymbals; instead he uses several different type of cymbals including the O-zone that has a short sustain to create the attack-ish feel along with the use of his twin bass pedals.

The heads on his hitting ends are: Power stroke 3 for his bass drum, toms are clear, snare is CS coated, gong bass is coated. They all use a thick emperor and a thin ambassador on the other side.
His left bass drum and roto tom are equipped with a drum trigger.
