Shenmue City is a sidestory based on Sega's adventure series, and will be the first entry in the franchise in eight years. The game will feature new stories and characters in Yokosuka, the setting of the first Shenmue, and the will include social features, though Sunsoft didn't reveal details about how these aspects affect the game.

Here are some specific game details:- The game takes place during the first chapter of Shenmue
- You begin gameplay as a student at the Hazuki Dojo
- Ryo Hazuki is also at the dojo
- You will be able to run your own dojo which will be ranked against the other dojos
- You will be able to find a part time job
- You can attempt to accomplish a mission. These are called Events and they usually involve fighting.
- Once running your own dojo, you can duel with other players in a Match.
- Toy Capsules can be collected in the game.
