Overview

Shaibah Airport, formerly Shaibah Air Base is today a small civilian airport south of Basara in far southeastern Iraq near the Kuwaiti Border. It was built in the 1980s for the Iraqi Air Force and abandoned after Operation Desert Storm in 1991. It has been refurbished and is now used as a civil airfield, with light private planes using the facilities.
