She has been published in New Millennium Writings, Hubbub, Poetry Conspiracy, The Bitter Oleander, Nimrod International and Pakistani Literature and in 2010 released her first poetry collection through Poetic Matrix Press, Baker of Tarifa. It explores Islam, feminism, and politics and has been well reviewed. One review writes that "Ms Hashmi made herself a part of an essentially feminist tradition of Pakistani writing in English while striking a wonderfully fresh note."
