. The station was originally designed as a coal fired station burning lignite. In 2002 it underwent a $30 M conversion to natural gas.

The Selkirk Generating Station consists of two 66 MW steam turbine-generator units. Construction of the plant started in 1957 and the station went into commercial service in 1961. In 2002 the fuel supply was converted from Saskatchewan lignite coal to natural gas.
