History

Seaport Village was built on landfill over Punta de los Muertos (Spanish for Point of the Dead), where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy. In later years it was a railroad yard where goods and other. Then Seaport Village broke ground in 1978 and opened in 1980.

Shops

More the 50 shops line the winding walkways, with merchandise ranging from cruise-ware and San Diego souvenirs to specialty vendors. For example, Seaport Village is home to shops devoted exclusively to hot sauce, music boxes, wind chimes, hammocks, kites, and the world's largest selection of mugs. There is also a 100-year-old carousel, built in 1895 and still in daily operation. Horse-drawn carriage rides and pedicabs are also available.

Restaurants

Seaport Village is home to several bay-view restaurants: the Harbor House restaurant, Edgewater Grill, Buster's, the Pier Cafe, Anthony's Fish Grotto, and more as you walk along the bay. In addition, a food court and many snack stands are available. There is also a cafe aboard the adjacent U.S.S. Midway
