Johnson earned his first senior cap for the United States when he entered as a halftime sub against Chile on 22 January 2011.

Johnson was a member of the 2009 United States Under-20 squad. He appeared in one match in the CONCACAF Under 20 final round along with three friendly matches. He is the holder of dual citizensip with United States and Jamaica. He had a brief tryout with the Jamaican Under 17 squad in 2005 and Under 20 squad in 2008.
