Spending scandal

After media inquiries concerning the mayor's spending habits, Harvey resigned as mayor in July, 2005. In August of the following year, Harvey admitted to breaching the public trust by using the city's credit card on several occasions between February 2003, and June 2005, running up bills totalling nearly $13,800.

In September, 2006, Harvey was sentenced to one-year conditional sentence, including six months of house arrest and six months under strict curfew. Harvey was also ordered to pay back the monies.
