Scott Glenn Weinberg is an American attorney best known for defending high-profile criminal cases in the state of Michigan.

Career

Scott Weinberg began his career as a U.S. Treasury Bond Trader at the Chicago Board of Trade in 1989. In 1991, he was appointed as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney by Carl Marlinga, who was elected prosecuting attorney in Macomb County, Michigan’s third largest county, from 1984 to 2004.

During his time in the Macomb County Prosecutors Office (1991–1994), Weinberg prosecuted more than 75 Capital Felony trials and became Chief of the Criminal Sexual Conduct Unit. In that post, Weinberg prosecuted the notorious case People of the State of Michigan v. John Wisniewski, the 1993 conviction of a man involved in the Big Brother Big Sister program who molested his little brother and was convicted with a 10-year prison sentence.

Weinberg was the lead prosecutor on more than 100 trials, including People vs. Donald Debolt, a case covered extensively on Court TV

While many in the Macomb County Prosecutors Office believed the case too difficult to try, then Asst. APA Weinberg decided to take the case to court and in the process, discovered that the defendant committed the same offense with several other patients in 10 years of practice. After that case ended (the defendant accepted a plea bargain after the trial ended in a 11-1 hung jury), Bufalino hired Weinberg to work as an attorney in his firm, Bufalino and Palazzolo, P.C., in Clinton Township, Michigan. The firm was best known for its defense of Teamster leader James Hoffa. Weinberg practiced law alongside Bufalino from 1994 to 1997. Bufalino’s father, William Bufalino Sr., was senior counsel in the Hoffa defense.
