Touzinsky was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, to Charles and Anne Touzinsky. In 2006, Touzinsky married Angelique Vogel, a promotional spokesmodel, which he said was the happiest moment in his life.

Touzinsky attended Long Beach State and finished his career as the single-season ace leader. In 2004, his senior season, he was an AVCA First Team All-American and became the all-time ace leader for Long Beach State. In January 2004, Touzinsky became just the third player in NCAA Division I-II to score 40 or more kills in an all rally-scoring match when he posted 40 versus BYU
